Features of the District

Location:Ballarat East District is an urbanised rural electorate located north-west of Melbourne.
Area:3,323 square kilometres.
Region:Western Victoria Region
Towns:Ballan, Ballarat East, Ballarat South, Bungaree, Buninyong, Canadian, Creswick, Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Kyneton, Lal Lal, Malmsbury, Meredith, Mount Clear, Mount Pleasant and Steiglitz.
Features:Ballarat is Victoria’s largest inland city and was one of the main goldmining centres in Australia in the nineteenth century. Ballarat and Daylesford are significant tourist centres. The Daylesford area features natural springs, health spa resorts and a lively town centre with shops and cafes. Industries in the region include agriculture, grazing, mining and timber production.
