Features of the District

Location:Bendigo West District is an urbanised rural electorate located north-west of Melbourne.
Area:2,633 square kilometres.
Region:Northern Victoria Region
Towns:Bendigo city centre, California Gully, Castlemaine, Harcourt, Long Gully, Maldon, Marong, Newstead and West BendigoParts of Eaglehawk, Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat.
Features:The city of Bendigo was a major gold mining centre in the nineteenth century and is a popular tourist destination. Industries include mining, dairy and sheep farming, fruit growing, manufacturing and tourism. Features include the Cairn Curran reservoir and the apple centre at Harcourt.
