Mount Alexander Shire Council, Calder Ward by-election


A by-election for Mount Alexander Shire Council's Calder Ward will be held on 25 February 2012. This is a postal election.

If you have not received your ballot pack, call 131 832 during normal business hours and a ballot pack will be sent to you directly. You can also obtain a replacement pack by visiting the election office.

Your completed ballot paper must reach the Returning Officer by 6.00pm on Friday, 24 February. They should be posted as soon as possible or can be delivered to the election office in person.

You are already enrolled for this by-election if you:

  • Will be 18 years of age or over on 25 February 2012; and
  • You live in Calder Ward and you are on the State electoral roll for your present address; or
  • You own property in Calder Ward, don't live in the municipality, and you are the first of second-named person on the Council's rate records; or
  • You applied to Council to be enrolled for the Mount Alexander Shire Council elections in November 2008.

If you have recently moved into Calder Ward and did not update your address details prior to entitlement date (16 December 2011), you will not be able to vote in this election.

If you recently moved within Calder Ward and did not update your details prior to entitlement date (16 December 2011), you will have to vote for your previous address.

If you have recently moved out of Calder Ward and did not update your address details prior to entitlement date (16 December 2011), you will have to vote for your previous address.

This is a postal election.

Your completed ballot paper must be returned in the reply paid envelope so that it is in the hands of the Returning Officer by 6.00pm on Friday, 24 February.

Voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens aged 18 to 70 who were registered on the voters roll in Calder Ward at 4.00pm on Friday, 16 December 2011, including homeowners and tenants. If you are on the roll for the Mount Alexander Shire Council, Calder Ward by-election and you fail to vote, you will be asked for an explanation in writing. If you do not have an acceptable reason for failing to vote, you may be fined.

Voting is not compulsory if you are over 70 years of age.
