Meet the Electoral Commissioner

Picture of Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully

Mr Steve Tully commenced his appointment as Victoria's Electoral Commissioner on 24 January 2005.

Having commenced his career in the South Australian Premier's Department in 1972, Mr Tully went on to hold positions in the South Australian Department of Agriculture, the Public Service Board, the Department for Local Government and the Arts, as well as in the Mental Health Service of South Australia as the Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Tully joined the VEC from his previous position as South Australia's Electoral Commissioner, a position he held from 1997 to 2005. Mr Tully held the position of South Australia's Deputy Electoral Commissioner from 1996.

During his time as the South Australian Electoral Commissioner, Mr Tully was responsible for overseeing two State elections as well as numerous local council elections and non-government elections.

Mr Tully's electoral background has allowed him to witness significant automation and other improvements in the Australian electoral industry. These improvements, which have often been led by the VEC, have been accountable responses to changes in requirements.
