Local council and community elections
Local councils may appoint the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to conduct their elections and by-elections. From 2008, local council elections will always be held on the last Saturday in November every four years. By-elections or countbacks are held when there is a vacancy on a council.
The VEC also conducts a number of commercial, community and statutory elections.
