For release from Monday, 3 December 2007
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) today released its Final Report on electoral representation for the City of Port Phillip Council.
The VEC’s recommendation is that the City of Port Phillip Council consist of seven councillors to be elected from seven single-councillor wards, with boundaries different from those in the current structure.
This recommendation is the same as the preliminary preferred option in the VEC’s Preliminary Report of 9 October 2007. The boundary adjustments will incorporate parts of Albert Park into the wards adjoining the park, reflecting comments made in response submissions and at the public hearing.
In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information, including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report and statements made at a public hearing on 14 November 2007.
The VEC’s Final Report on the City of Port Phillip Council has been forwarded for consideration to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government.
The Final Report is available for inspection at the Council offices, or people can get their own copies from the VEC (tel. 13 18 32) or from the VEC’s website www.vec.vic.gov.au
