For release from Monday, 13 August 2007
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) today released its Final Report on electoral representation for the Ballarat City Council.
The VEC’s recommendation is that Ballarat City Council consist of nine councillors, to be elected from three three-councillor wards. The recommendation is the same as the preliminary preferred option in the VEC’s Preliminary Report of 25 June 2007.
In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information, including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report and statements made at a public hearing on 24 July 2007.
The VEC’s Final Report on the Ballarat City Council has been forwarded for consideration to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government.
The Final Report is available for inspection at the Council offices, or people can get their own copies from the VEC (tel. 13 18 32) or from the VEC’s website www.vec.vic.gov.au
