The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) today released its Preliminary Report on electoral representation for the Benalla Rural City Council. The VEC’s preliminary preferred option is for the Benalla Rural City Council to consist of seven councillors, to be elected from an unsubdivided municipality. Two alternative options are also included in the Preliminary Report.
The VEC invites interested people and groups to read the Preliminary Report and respond to the provided options. All written submissions must be lodged with the VEC by 5.00 pm on Wednesday, 7 November 2007.
The Report is available on the VEC’s web site at www.vec.vic.gov.au. Copies are also available at the Benalla Rural City Council offices, Fawckner Drive, Benalla, and at the VEC office, Level 8, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000.
People who wish to speak publicly in support of their submissions will have an opportunity to do so at a public hearing at:
on Tuesday, 20 November 2007 at 6.00 pm.
The VEC’s Final Report and recommendations will be lodged with the Minister for Local Government on Monday, 10 December 2007.
