Surf Coast Shire Council to fill vacancy

An extraordinary vacancy has arisen in Surf Coast Shire Council following the resignation of Councillor Lindsay Schroeter.

The vacancy will be filled through a countback of votes from the November 2008 general election. Voters do not need to vote again in a countback.

Returning Officer, John Manley said: 'Countbacks are used to fill vacancies in multi-councillor wards and unsubdivided municipalities if a councillor resigns or is ineligible to hold office.

'Those candidates who were unsuccessful at the general election and are still eligible to be elected will be included in the countback.'

The countback will take place at the Surf Coast Shire Council Chambers, 25 Grossmans Road, Torquay at 12.00 noon on Thursday, 23 September.

Eligible candidates may appoint scrutineers to attend and observe the countback.
