Early voting commences for Albert Park and Williamstown District by-elections

Options are available for people unable to attend a voting centre on election day, Saturday 15 September, for the Albert Park and Williamstown District by-elections, according to Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully.

“There are two ways people enrolled at these by-elections can vote in advance,” says Mr Tully.  “People can vote early, either in person at an early voting centre, or by post.”

Early voting centres are located at 19 Parker Street, Williamstown and at Level 2, 71 Palmerston Crescent, South Melbourne.  For people working in the city, early voting is also available at the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), Level 8, 505 Little Collins Street.

Early voting centres are open between 8.30am and 5.00pm weekdays.  Extended opening hours are from 9.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 8 September, from 8.30am to 8.00pm on Thursday 13 September, and from 8.30am to 6.00pm on Friday 14 September, at which time early voting closes.

Early voting is also available at Victoria House, London (UK) and at various interstate locations.

Another option for people unable to vote early or on election day is to apply for a postal vote.

“The VEC needs to receive postal vote applications by Tuesday 11 September,” Mr Tully says.  “This is to ensure that we can send ballot packs to voters in time for them to complete and post the ballot paper before election day.”

Voting is compulsory for people on the roll for the Albert Park and Williamstown by-elections as at Monday 27 August 2007.
