Northern Grampians Shire COUNCIL ELECTORAL REPRESENTATION REVIEW: FINAL REPORT RELEASED

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) today released its Final Report on electoral representation for the Northern Grampians Shire Council.

The VEC’s recommendation is that Northern Grampians Shire Council consist of seven councillors to be elected from one three-councillor ward, one two-councillor ward and two single-councillor wards.  The recommendation is the same as the preliminary alternative option in the VEC’s Preliminary Report of 17 July 2007, except for the names of two of the wards.

In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information, including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report and statements made at a public hearing on 15 August 2007.

The VEC’s Final Report on the Northern Grampians Shire Council has been forwarded for consideration to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government.

The Final Report is available for inspection at the Council offices, or people can get their own copies from the VEC (tel. 13 18 32) or from the VEC’s website www.vec.vic.gov.au
