An unsubdivided structure recommended for Moira
Nine councillors elected from an unsubdivided municipality is the recommended structure for Moira Shire Council, following the completion of the electoral representation review.
The recommendation, released in a Final Report by the Victorian Electoral Commission, would replace the current structure of nine Councillors elected from three three-councillor wards.
The report has been sent to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government. If accepted, the new structure will be in effect for the November local council elections.
“In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report and Addendum Report,” said Mr Steve Tully, Victorian Electoral Commissioner.
“We believe this structure provides the best opportunity for the interests of voters to be fairly and equitably represented on the Council," said Mr Tully.
For a copy of the Final Report visit the VEC’s website www.vec.vic.gov.au or call the VEC on 13 18 32. Copies are also available for inspection at the Council offices.
