Have your say on Your COuncil

The Victorian Electoral Commission has released its Preliminary Report for the electoral representation review of the City of Boroondara and is encouraging all interested people to request a copy and provide feedback.

The City of Boroondara is currently a subdivided municipality with ten councillors elected from ten single-councillor wards.  The VEC’s preliminary preference is for eleven councillors to be elected from three three-councillor wards and one two-councillor ward.

An additional three options have also been provided in the Report for consideration and public comment.

The review looks at the number of councillors and the number of wards required to provide fair and equitable representation for all voters.

“The report provides thorough analysis of, and the reasons behind, the options presented,” said Steve Tully, Victorian Electoral Commissioner. “By considering the report people will be able to make a judgement against concrete options as to which electoral structure will best represent their needs.”

Written submissions will be accepted until 5.00 pm on Wednesday, 30 April 2008.

At the Public Hearing, to be held on 7 May at 6.30 pm, submitters who have requested to speak in support of their submissions will be able to do so. The hearing will take place at the Mayor's Room, Hawthorn Town Hall, 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn and is open to the public.
