Early voting begins for Kororoit District by-election

Voting has started in the Kororoit District State by-election, according to Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully.

 

“Anyone who can’t vote in person on election day, Saturday, 28 June 2008, can now vote before election day, either at an early voting centre or by post,” Mr Tully said.

 

The Kororoit District Early Voting Centre is located at 344 Main Road West, St AlbansFor people in the city, early voting is also available at the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), Level 9, 505 Little Collins Street.

 

Early voting is open between 8.30am and 5.00pm weekdays.  Extended early voting hours are from 9.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday, 21 June, from 8.30am to 8.00pm on Thursday, 26 June, and from 8.30am to 6.00pm on Friday, 27 June.

 

Early voting closes at 6.00pm on Friday, 27 June.

 

Another option for people unable to vote early or on election day is to apply for a postal vote. 

 

“The VEC must receive postal vote applications by Tuesday, 24 June,” Mr Tully said.

 

Mr Tully reminded people that voting in the by-election is compulsory for everyone who was on the roll for Kororoit District on Tuesday, 10 June 2008. People may be fined if they do not vote.

 

There are six candidates contesting the Kororoit District by-election. The candidates, in ballot paper order, are:
