Liquor licensing poll for Camberwell residents

More than 1,700 Camberwell residents will soon receive ballot papers to vote in a new liquor licensing poll.

The poll is the result of a liquor licence application from Il Borgo Café Restaurant at 1385 Toorak Road, Camberwell.

"Voting is compulsory for people enrolled for State elections who live in the neighbourhood surrounding the restaurant," said Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully.

The Director of Liquor Licensing determines the neighbourhood boundaries for each poll.

Ballot papers will be sent out to eligible residents from Friday, 28 August and completed ballot papers must be received no later than 6.00pm on Monday, 14 September.

Residents will simply be asked to vote 'yes' or 'no' on whether a licence should be granted.

Voting in liquor licensing polls is compulsory, and electors who fail to vote without a valid excuse may be fined.

The Victorian Electoral Commission is conducting the liquor licensing poll on behalf of the Director of Liquor Licensing.
