Changes to ward boundaries for the City of Greater Geelong

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has recommended the City of Greater Geelong retain its current electoral structure, but with different ward boundaries.

In the Final Report released today, the VEC recommends the Council remain with the current structure of twelve councillors elected from twelve single-councillor wards. The recommendation includes changes to ward boundaries to ensure representation remains fair and equitable.

The report has been sent to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government. If accepted, the new ward boundaries will be in effect for the November local council elections.

“In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report, and statements made at a public hearing on Monday, 21 April,” said Mr Steve Tully, Victorian Electoral Commissioner.

“We believe this structure provides the best opportunity for the interests of voters to be fairly and equitably represented on the Council," said Mr Tully.

For a copy of the Final Report visit the VEC’s website www.vec.vic.gov.au or call the VEC on 13 18 32. Copies are also available for inspection at the Council offices.
