New ward boundaries for Bass Coast Shire
Seven councillors and seven wards is the recommended structure for Bass Coast Shire following the completion of the electoral representation review.
In the Final Report released today, the Victorian Electoral Commission recommends the council should retain the current structure of seven councillors elected from seven single-councillor wards. There will be changes to the ward boundaries to ensure equal and fair representation for all voters.
The report has been sent to Mr Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Local Government. If accepted, the new structure will be in effect for the November local council elections.
“In preparing its Final Report, the VEC considered a range of information including submissions made in response to its Preliminary Report, and statements made at a public hearing on Monday, 5 May,” said Mr Steve Tully, Victorian Electoral Commissioner.
“We believe this structure provides the best opportunity for the interests of voters to be fairly and equitably represented on the Council,” said Mr Tully.
