Writ issued for June State by-election

 

 

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Honourable Jenny Lindell MP, has issued the writ for a by-election to fill the vacant electoral seat of Kororoit District. 

 

The by-election will be held on Saturday, 28 June 2008.

 

Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully said that letters are being sent to every household in the electorate, reminding people to update their enrolment details if they have moved, or to get on the roll if they are 18 or over and have never enrolled before.

 

“Although most people know that voting is compulsory, many people don’t realise that enrolling and keeping their enrolment details current is also compulsoryRolls for the by-election close at 8.00pm on Tuesday, 10 June and all enrolment forms must reach the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) by this time.”

 

Prospective candidates can nominate to stand for the by-election and must have done so by close of nominations at 12 noon on Friday, 13 JuneThe deadline for party candidates is 12 noon on Thursday, 12 June. 

 

The VEC will mail further election information to all eligible voters at least two weeks prior to election day, detailing the location of early voting and election day voting centres. 

 

Postal vote applications for those voters who cannot make it to a voting centre are available by calling the VEC on 13 18 32.
