Make sure your vote counts on Saturday

 

Electoral Commissioner Steve Tully has urged voters in Kororoit District to make sure their vote counts at this Saturday’s by-election.

 

“People need to take the time to read the instructions on their ballot paper so they can fill out their ballot paper and vote correctly,” said Mr Tully. 

 

For a vote to count, a voter must put the number “1” in the box next to the candidate they most want to see elected, then number ALLthe other boxes in the order of their preference.

 

Election officials are available to help people who need assistance with voting, and all voting centres include translated voting instructions in 24 languages.

 

Voting centres are open on election day, Saturday, 28 June, from 8.00am to 6.00pm.  Locations are advertised in local newspapers and are listed on www.vec.vic.gov.au

 

There are six candidates standing for election in Kororoit District.

 

Voting is compulsory for people on the electoral roll for Kororoit District on Tuesday, 10 June 2008.  Those who fail to vote risk a fine.

 

Voters who can’t make it to a voting centre on election day still have the opportunity to vote in advance at one of the early voting centres. 

 

Early voting centres are located at 344 Main Road West, St Albans, and the Victorian Electoral Commission, Level 9, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne.
