Voting opens for
today’s Kororoit District by-election
Around 40,000 Victorians are
expected to vote in today’s Kororoit District by-election.
Voting
centres are open from 8.00am to 6.00pm today,
and locations are advertised in today’s Age
and Herald Sun newspapers, and are
listed on www.vec.vic.gov.au
There
are six candidates standing for election in Kororoit District, and voting is
compulsory for people who were on the electoral roll for Kororoit District on
10 June 2008.
Electoral Commissioner Steve
Tully urged voters to make sure their vote counts.
“People need to take the
time to read the instructions on their ballot paper so they can fill out their
ballot paper and vote correctly,” he said.
For a vote to count, a voter
must put the number “1” in the box next to the candidate they most want to see
elected, then number ALLthe other boxes in the
order of their preference.
Election
officials are available to help people who need assistance with voting, and all
voting centres include translated voting instructions in 24 languages.
