Countback to fill vacancy on Wyndham City Council

An extraordinary vacancy has arisen in Chaffey Ward within the Wyndham City Council due to legislative changes prohibiting Councillor Marie Brittan from completing her elected term.

The vacancy will be filled through a countback of votes from the November 2008 general election.

“Countbacks are used to fill vacancies in multi-councillor wards and unsubdivided municipalities if a councillor resigns or is ineligible to hold office,” said the Returning Officer, John Francis.

“Those candidates who were unsuccessful at the general election and are still eligible to be elected will be included in the countback,” he said.

The countback of votes will be conducted at the Victorian Electoral Commission, Level 8, 505 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, at 10.00am on Monday, 19 October 2009.

Voters do not need to vote again in a countback.
