Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is divided into six wards. Along the Port Phillip Bay coast, Nepean Ward includes Portsea, Sorrento, Blairgowrie, Tootgarook and most of Rye. Seawinds Ward includes Rosebud, Dromana and Safety Beach. Briars Ward includes Mount Eliza, Mornington and most of Mount Martha. Along the Western Port Bay coast, Watson Ward includes Somerville and Tyabb. Cerberus Ward includes Hastings and Bittern. Red Hill Ward includes Red Hill, Merricks North, Balnarring, Somers, Point Leo and Flinders.
