Away from Victoria during the election?
If you are going to be overseas or interstate during the election period, you have a number of options.
Early voting centres are available in every District in Victoria.
There will also be an early voting centre at Melbourne Airport.
You can vote early between 9.00 am Monday 12 and 6.00 pm Friday 23 November.
Early voting centre locations will be listed on this website from Wednesday 31 October.
Voting interstate or overseas
If you will not be in Victoria between Monday 12 and Saturday 24 November, you can vote in person at one of a number of early voting centres that will be open interstate or overseas.
Interstate and overseas early voting centres will be open during local business hours. For locations, check our voting centre lookup from 31 October. These voting centres will NOT be open on Saturday 24 November.
If you will be interstate or overseas, you will also be able to apply to have a postal vote sent to you. You can apply online for a postal vote from Wednesday 31 October.
You will need to allow enough time for a ballot pack to reach your destination. Returned votes must be postmarked before 6.00 pm on Saturday 24 November and received no later than 6.00 pm on Friday 30 November.
Ballot packs will be mailed from Monday 12 November, once nominations have closed.
Let us know you will be interstate or overseas
It is not compulsory to vote if you are not in Victoria during the voting period (including election day) and will not have access to any of the above options.
Complete a Traveller Notification Form if you wish to inform the VEC that you will be interstate or overseas on election day and you are unable to vote.
What if I am working in Antarctica?
The VEC has made arrangements with the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) to ensure voters enrolled as being in Antarctica on election day can vote.
Defence personnel deployed overseas
Defence personnel who are deployed overseas can:
- enrol as a general postal voter, or
- apply for a postal vote.
The VEC is working with the Department of Defence to ensure that ballot material reaches defence personnel deployed overseas. Further information will be provided to defence personnel by DEFGRAM during October and November 2018.
