The close of voting for the Buloke Shire Council, Mallee Ward by-election has been extended by one week to 6 pm Friday 21 October, to ensure all voters have the opportunity to cast a considered vote.
Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said the recent flooding, resulting in road closures and mail delivery delays, has affected the receipt of some ballot packs.
'In order to ensure that all voters have adequate time to cast a considered vote and thus ensure the integrity of the election, I have made the decision to extend the close of voting by one week from 6 pm on Friday 14 October to 6 pm on Friday 21 October,' Mr Gately said.
Mr Gately said the extended voting timeline was the fair and appropriate action and will apply for all voters across the ward.
'Voters can rest assured that we will be accepting completed votes mailed or delivered to the election office in Wycheproof before 6 pm on Friday 21 October.'
The election office will also be open next week with extended hours on Thursday 20 October until 8 pm and Friday 21 October until 6 pm.
