Camberwell and Ashburton residents will soon receive ballot papers to vote in one of two new liquor licensing polls.
The polls are the result of applications for a General Licence from the Greenhart Wine Bar, 1226 Toorak Road, Camberwell and Aikido Hospitality, 192 High Street, Ashburton.
‘Voting is compulsory for State-enrolled voters who live in the neighbourhoods surrounding the venues,’ Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said.
The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) determines the neighbourhood boundaries for each poll.
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will send ballot packs to eligible residents on Tuesday 14 September. Voters must complete their ballot paper and return it by 5 pm on Monday 4 October. Residents who will be away during this period need to contact the VEC on 131 832 to arrange an early postal vote.
Voting in liquor licensing polls is compulsory, and people who fail to vote without a valid excuse may be fined.
The VEC is conducting the liquor licensing polls on behalf of the VCGLR.
