Political party registration process has now concluded

Monday 31 October 2022

For immediate release

The application process for registering a political party for this year’s State election has now concluded.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) refused the Family Matters Australia Party’s application today, as it did not meet the statutory requirement to prove it has 500 members who are Victorian electors.

An unregistered political party can still participate at elections, but will not be entitled to:

  • have its name and logo next to candidates’ names on ballot papers
  • nominate candidates and lodge how-to-vote cards with the VEC centrally rather than with election managers
  • ongoing enrolment information (which can be used only for permitted purposes).
