Countbacks to fill 2 extraordinary vacancies on Glenelg Shire Council will take place online following the resignations of councillors Jayden M. Smith and Chrissy Hawker.
The countback details are as follows:
- 10 am on Monday 20 November – vacancy created by Councillor Jayden M. Smith’s resignation
- 10 am on Monday 4 December – vacancy created by Councillor Chrissy Hawker’s resignation.
The vacancies will be filled by countbacks of all formal votes from the 2020 Glenelg Shire Council election. Votes will be redistributed to candidates who were unsuccessful in 2020 but are still eligible to be elected.
The countback is based on the proportional representation method of counting, which means candidates must achieve a proportion of votes known as a quota.
‘The candidate who gets the quota will be elected. If no candidate reaches the quota, the candidate with the highest number of countback votes will be elected,’ Election Manager Sally Leung said.
A link to join the countbacks will be available from 9:30 am on the morning of each countback at vec.vic.gov.au.
Candidates and other interested parties can watch the countbacks.
The results will be published online at vec.vic.gov.au.
