For immediate release
The Victorians Party has been voluntarily de-registered in Victoria.
Victoria’s registered political parties are permitted to apply for de-registration with the VEC in accordance with the Electoral Act 2002 (the Act).
Electoral Commissioner, Warwick Gately, confirmed that the Victorians Party requested to be voluntarily de‑registered under section 53 of the Act.
The Victorians Party, or a party with a name that closely resembles Victorians Party, cannot re-register as a political party until after the 2022 State election.
An earlier application from the Victorians Party to change their logo has since been withdrawn.
An unregistered political party can still participate at elections, but will not be entitled to:
- have its name and logo next to candidates’ names on ballot papers
- nominate candidates and lodge how-to-vote cards with the VEC centrally rather than with election managers
- ongoing enrolment information (which can be used only for permitted purposes).
