Victorians will vote today and have their say in the biggest Victorian State election in history.
‘Your vote will help shape Victoria’ has been the tagline of the Victorian Electoral Commission’s (VEC’s) advertising campaign encouraging all Victorians to be heard and make their vote count.
‘Each election we see young people suggesting that their single vote won’t make a difference. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth - every vote matters,’ said Acting Electoral Commissioner Dana Fleming.
‘Many Lower House seats are decided on preferences, so even if your first choice is not elected, your second, third and further preferences will still influence who is eventually elected,’ said Ms Fleming.
Some election results can come down to less than a handful of votes.
Voters can access resources to help them understand how voting works on the VEC website at vec.vic.gov.au, where they will also find a voting centre locator to find a voting centre nearest to them. The voting centre locator also contains information about wheelchair accessibility at each site and is available now at maps.vec.vic.gov.au/elections
Voting centres are open from 8 am to 6 pm today and preliminary results will appear progressively from 6:30 pm tonight on the VEC’s website.
