About the program

The Active Citizenship Leadership Program is free to attend for successful applicants aged 18 and above. The program will explore what it means to actively engage in Australia's democracy and gain useful leadership skills to drive positive change in communities. This highly interactive learning program will consist of:

  • a mix of leadership theory and hands-on skills for community engagement
  • active citizenship knowledge and skill building
  • guest speakers sharing their leadership journeys and active citizenship experiences
  • networking opportunities and peer support.

The program will be held from February to June in 2022 and consist of 5 full Saturday sessions followed by a program graduation. The program will be delivered face-to-face and will be held in the Melbourne CBD. However this is depending on COVID-19 restrictions and the sessions may be moved online if required.

Suitable participants who complete the program may be invited to apply for casual work as a Democracy Ambassador. Democracy Ambassadors deliver electoral information to communities before major election events.

Accessibility and inclusion

The program will be held at a fully accessible central Melbourne location that is close to public transport. The venue will have both a prayer room and room for mothers. All program catering will be considered based on the cultural requirements of the program group.

Additional supports and considerations will be made to ensure that all participants can fully participate in the program.
