Our Democracy Ambassador program for the 2022 State election will commence in April next year!
We know that hearing from trusted peers about electoral information is important to our communities. That's why Democracy Ambassadors come on board as casual VEC staff in the lead up to major election events. They work alongside our Education and Inclusion Team to deliver electoral education during the election period.
Who are the Democracy Ambassadors?
Our Democracy Ambassadors are a diverse group of people passionate about electoral education and inclusion. They represent those communities that have traditionally been under-represented in voting:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- people from multicultural communities
- people living with disability
- people experiencing homelessness
- people in prison.
For the last State election, the program reached over 8,000 people across 335 sessions! Our Democracy Ambassadors work across Victoria to deliver electoral education at a time and place that is suitable for your organisation or community group. Our sessions include practical education and training on enrolling to vote and how to fill out a ballot paper correctly. Our sessions can be tailored to community needs and languages. We will be in touch with updates on the program and opportunities to be involved.
