What happens to the structure of councils?

The structure of some councils will change at the October 2020 local council election.

Council electoral structures that will change to single-councillor wards

The following council electoral structures will have single-councillor ward structures at the 2020 local council elections in October:

Council electoral structures that will change to an unsubdivided structure

The following councils will change to an unsubdivided structure at the 2020 local council elections:

  • Mansfield Shire Council – five councillors in an unsubdivided structure
  • Swan Hill Rural City Council – seven councillors in an unsubdivided structure

Council electoral structures that will not change

The following councils will not change from their current structures, although there may be changes to the ward boundaries, number of councillors or single-councillor wards:

  • Casey City Council (no election until October 2024)
  • Hepburn Shire Council
  • Northern Grampians Shire Council
  • Buloke Shire Council
  • East Gippsland Shire Council
  • Benalla Rural City Council
  • Moira Shire Council
  • Borough of Queenscliffe
  • Ararat Rural City Council
  • Colac Otway Shire Council
