State by-election in April

Following the resignation of the Hon. Tim Holding, MP, on Monday, 18 February, the Speaker, the Hon. Ken Smith, MP, has issued the writ for a by-election to fill the vacancy for the District of Lyndhurst.

The by-election will be held on Saturday, 27 April 2013.

Acting Electoral Commissioner Liz Williams said: ‘Voting in the Lyndhurst by-election is compulsory. By law, if you are an Australian citizen over the age of 18, you must be enrolled at your current address and vote or risk a fine. All enrolment forms must reach the Victorian Electoral Commission by the close of roll at 8.00 pm on Tuesday, 12 March’.

Most people can update their address by visiting vec.vic.gov.au and using the online application to complete an electronic enrolment update, with no need for paper forms.

People who are enrolling for the first time, or who have changed their name or don’t have a driver licence, can pre-complete their form online at vec.vic.gov.au but will then need to print it out, sign it and have it witnessed prior to returning it.

Enrolment forms are also available from any post office or Australian Electoral Commission office.

The Victorian Electoral Commission will write to all enrolled voters prior to election day, detailing the location of early voting and election day voting centres.
