Mildura gets election ready

Driving Votes is travelling to Mildura this weekend as part of a three-week enrolment drive, encouraging more people to enrol to vote ahead of the State election on Saturday 29 November.

The Driving Votes team will be assisting people with updating their enrolment details or enrolling for the first time between 3.30 pm and 8.30 pm, today, at Mildura Central — one of 20 destinations targeted by the campaign.

While there, visitors will also get the chance to take a snap with the cast of paper people from the 2014 State election advertising campaign. The best photograph uploaded to Driving Votes site every two weeks wins an iPad Mini.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately, AM, said: ‘It is important that all eligible Victorians take part in November’s State election. We’re hoping Driving Votes encourages more people to check that their details are current before the electoral roll closes on Tuesday 11 November’.

At the 2010 State election, Mildura had the fifth lowest voting turnout rate for 18 to 29 year-olds out of the 88 Districts.

‘We’re hoping to turn around these statistics by having a visible presence in the community; encouraging everyone to correctly enrol and to have the State election front-of-mind,’ said Warwick Gately.

The team will also hit the streets of Mildura on Saturday, creating a buzz around the upcoming State election with plenty of giveaways.
