Early votes admitted to count

As at 5.00 pm today, the percentage of votes counted across the State was over 70% of enrolment - in nine districts this figure was more than 80%.

The VEC is continuing to focus on five close Legislative Assembly seats:

  • Bentleigh
  • Frankston
  • Melbourne
  • Morwell
  • Prahran

Counting of early votes commenced today with updated figures on the VEC website for the majority of districts. District offices that finished counting early votes on hand have commenced their programmed recheck of primary votes as of today.

Tomorrow will see further counting of remaining early votes and postal votes received today.

Rechecking of Upper House ballot papers commenced today and will continue throughout this week, with volumes expected to increase from tomorrow. As primary counts are completed in district election offices, region ballot papers will be progressively delivered to region recheck centres to establish a solid basis for the final Upper House count. Please note, that some variation between primary counts and recheck counts is expected and is a normal part of the process.

Once Upper House ballot paper rechecking is completed, those marked below the line will be forwarded to the VEC’s central count centre at Etihad stadium for data entry. Data entry is expected to commence on Saturday. Further details will be provided later this week.
