Further progress of the count

Three Legislative Assembly districts continue to remain the focus for the VEC. The margins indicated are based on primary two candidate preferred results:

  • Bentleigh (ALP currently in the lead by 268 votes with 89.3% of enrolment counted
  • Frankston (ALP currently in the lead by 135 votes with 85.7% of enrolment counted)
  • Prahran (Liberal Party currently in the lead by 322 votes with 79.8% of enrolment counted)

There has been an approximate 100% increase in the number of people who have voted below the line in the Upper House. In 2010 approximately 4% of voters voted below the line. In 2014 this figure could be as high as 8% which will increase the volume of ballot papers requiring manual data entry. This process will commence on Saturday at the count centre at Etihad Stadium. Each ballot paper will be double data entered to ensure the accurate entry of preferences.

Declarations of those districts where a candidate has won with an absolute majority of first preference votes commences tomorrow and continues on Monday. Please see the declaration schedule for locations and times.
