Date set for Gippsland South by-election

The Gippsland South District by-election will be held on Saturday 14 March. The Speaker, the Hon. Telmo Languiller, MP, issued the writ for the State by-election today.

The Legislative Assembly vacancy follows the resignation of the Hon. Peter Ryan, MP, on Monday 2 February.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said: ‘Voting in this by-election is compulsory for all Gippsland South District electors on the State electoral roll.

‘By law, if you are an Australian citizen over the age of 18, you must be enrolled at your current address and vote or risk a fine. All enrolment forms must reach the VEC by the close of roll at 8.00 pm on Tuesday 24 February’.

Voters can enrol or update their enrolment details at vec.vic.gov.au, or pick up an enrolment form at any Australia Post or Australian Electoral Commission office.

The VEC will write to all enrolled voters for the District prior to election day, detailing the location of early voting and election day voting centres.

Information about enrolling, voting or standing for election is available on the VEC’s website at vec.vic.gov.au or by calling 131 832.
