Call for candidates for Gippsland South District

Nominations are now open for the Gippsland South District by-election, which will be held on Saturday 14 March.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said: ‘Candidates wishing to contest the by-election must ensure nominations are lodged before the deadline, as late nominations cannot be accepted.’

Registered political parties must nominate their endorsed candidates by 12 noon on Thursday 26 February directly with the VEC at Level 11, 530 Collins Street, Melbourne.

For independent candidates, a completed nomination form must be lodged with the Election Manager, Janine Taylor by 12 noon on Friday 27 February at the Election Office at 1 Church Street, Leongatha.

A nomination deposit of $350 applies to all nominations. Appointments are encouraged.

To save time at the election office, candidates are encouraged to pre-fill their nomination form at vec.vic.gov.au using the Candidate Helper.

Candidates must, however, deliver their printed barcoded nomination form and deposit for final processing before the deadline.

An information session for independent candidates, discussing the key requirements and responsibilities of nominating for a State by-election, will be held at:

4.00 pm, Tuesday 24 February
1 Church Street, Leongatha.

Nomination forms and the Candidate Handbook are available online at vec.vic.gov.au or by contacting the Election Manager on (03) 5662 0522.

A ballot draw to determine the position of the candidates on the ballot paper will take place at the Election Office after 1.00 pm on Friday 27 February. Candidates and members of the media are invited to attend.

Details of nominated candidates will be progressively published on the VEC website.
