Almost 50,000 to head for polls in Northcote

Just under 50,000 people in Northcote District are enrolled to vote in the upcoming by-election after the roll closed late last week.

48,113 electors in Northcote District were recorded at the close of rolls, 8.00 pm Thursday 28 September. This is an increase of 3,840 electors since the 2014 State election.

Early voting commences Friday 20 October and will be available to electors unable to vote between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm on election day, Saturday 18 November; electors voting early will have to make a declaration to that effect.

Early voting centres will be open between 8.30 am and 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, until Friday 17 November, with the following extended hours:

  • Saturday 11 November, 9.00 am to 2.00 pm
  • Thursday 16 November, 8.30 am to 8.00 pm.

Electors unable to vote early or on election day can apply for a postal vote. Postal vote applications are available:

  • at any post office within Northcote District
  • at the election offices:

  • by calling (03) 8619 1561.

Applications for postal votes must be received by 6.00 pm on Thursday 16 November and completed ballot papers must be in the mail or handed in at a voting centre before 6.00 pm on election day, Saturday 18 November.

Voting is compulsory for all electors enrolled in Northcote District.
