Northern Grampians Shire Council, Kara Kara Ward by-election

Voters in Kara Kara Ward in Northern Grampians Shire Council will vote in a postal by-election in February 2021.

The by-election will be held to elect a new councillor for Kara Kara Ward, after the resignation of Councillor-elect Karen Joy Hyslop.

Voting

Voting in the Kara Kara Ward by-election this February 2021 will be by post.

We will post ballot packs to enrolled voters from Tuesday 2 February 2021 to Thursday 4 February 2021. 

The ballot pack will contain:

  • a ballot paper attached to statements and photographs lodged by the candidates in Kara Kara Ward
  • a ballot paper envelope with a flap
  • a reply-paid envelope.

How to vote

Follow the instructions on the ballot pack to complete your vote. Make sure you post or hand-deliver it to the Election Office before 6 pm on Friday 19 February 2021.

Local mail clearance times vary. Check your local mail clearance times so your vote is in the mail on time.

Who must vote?

You must vote if you are a State-enrolled voter as at 4 pm on Friday 18 December 2020.

If you do not vote, you may be fined.

Who can vote?

If you are a council-enrolled voter, we encourage you to vote, but you won’t be fined if you don’t. Find out more about council-enrolled voters

If you will be away or have changed address

You can apply to have your ballot pack redirected if:

  • you will be away when ballot packs are mailed (after Tuesday 2 February 2021) 
    or
  • your mailing address has changed since the close of roll (Friday 18 December 2020). If you moved within or out of Kara Kara Ward since the close of roll, you must vote or risk a fine.
Details on how to request a replacement ballot pack will be available on this website from Tuesday 2 February 2021. 

If you own more than one property in the ward

You will get one vote for this by-election.

If you are a State-enrolled voter, you must vote for your enrolled address only.
