The South Gippsland Shire Council general election will be held by post this October.
Voting in the South Gippsland Shire Council election this October will be by post.
We will post ballot packs to enrolled voters between Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 October.
The ballot pack will contain:
- a ballot paper attached to statements and photographs lodged by the candidates in your ward
- a ballot paper envelope with a flap
- a reply-paid envelope.
How to vote
Follow the instructions on the ballot pack to complete your vote. Make sure you post or hand-deliver it to the election office before 6 pm on Friday 22 October.
Local mail clearance times vary. Check your local mail clearance times so your vote is in the mail on time.
Who must vote?
You must vote if you are a State-enrolled voter as at 4 pm on Friday 27 August.
If you do not vote, you may be fined.
Who can vote?
If you are a council-enrolled voter, we encourage you to vote, but you won't be fined if you don't. Find out more about council-enrolled voters.

If you will be away or have changed address
You can request to have a replacement ballot pack sent to a different address if:
- you will be away when ballot packs are mailed (after Tuesday 5 October) or
- your mailing address has changed since the close of roll (Friday 27 August).
You should also request a replacement pack if you have moved within or out of South Gippsland Shire Council and you did not update your details before the close of roll.
Instructions on how to request a replacement ballot pack will be available from Tuesday 5 October.

If you are a State-enrolled voter in South Gippsland Shire Council, you must vote.
If you are a council-enrolled voter, we encourage you to vote but you won’t be fined if you don’t.

If you own more than one property in the council area
You are enrolled once and will get one vote for this election.
If you are a State-enrolled voter, you are enrolled at your principal address only and must vote.
If you are a council-enrolled voter with more than one address in the council area, you are enrolled once and will get one ballot pack only. Contact South Gippsland Shire Council on 03 5662 9200 if you have any questions about which property you are enrolled for.
About South Gippsland Shire Council
South Gippsland Shire Council was dismissed by an Act of Parliament in June 2019.
The council is subdivided into three wards:
- Coastal-Promontory Ward
- Strzelecki Ward
- Tarwin Valley Ward.
There are nine councillors to be elected to the council, three in each ward.
You will vote for the three councillors representing your area only.
