Change of registered political party name and abbreviated name – The Australian Greens - Victoria

The name of the registered political party, The Australian Greens - Victoria was officially changed today.

The party applied to change its registered name to 'Australian Greens Victoria' on 8 December 2025. The party also applied to change its abbreviated name to 'The Greens'.

As required by section 49 of the Electoral Act 2002 (the Act), the Victorian Electoral Commission advertised the application and invited objections. No objections were received during the objection period.

Certain names and abbreviations are not acceptable under the Act, including an abbreviation that is not a proper abbreviation of the political party.

The name Australian Greens Victoria and the abbreviation The Greens are acceptable under the Act and can be printed next to the party's endorsed candidates' names on ballot papers at any election contested by the party under the Act.
