Information for multicultural communities
We help people from different cultures and language backgrounds understand voting and elections.
This information will help you feel confident taking part in elections.
Why voting matters
Voting is how you have a say. It lets you help make decisions that affect your life, your family and your community.
Voting is your right and your chance to choose people who speak for you in government. It allows you to support the issues that matter to you and help shape Victoria's future.
When you vote, you help strengthen democracy and make sure every voice is heard.
Support and learning in your language
We offer voting information and education in many languages to help you understand and take part in elections. This includes:
- free Active Citizen workshops
- election-specific information and videos
- interpreting services
- information at many community events.
Our Democracy Ambassadors from multicultural backgrounds also share information and answer questions within their communities.
You can also access the Talking Democracy kit.
Get involved in democracy
There are many ways to participate beyond learning how to vote. You can:
- enrol and vote in elections
- apply to work with us during an election
- become a Democracy Ambassador
- help others in your community understand voting.
Community organisations can:
- book a free Active Citizen workshop
- invite us to your community event
- order Talking Democracy resources for your classroom.
Advisory group
Community Voice is our advisory group for people from different cultural and language backgrounds.
The group shares ideas and advice to help us make services and resources that meet community needs.
Community Voice meets twice a year. New members are always welcome.
