Celebrating Cultural Diversity Week
Cultural Diversity Week is Victoria’s largest multicultural celebration, taking place from 17–23 March 2025. It's a time for all Victorians to come together and celebrate the richness of our diverse cultures.
On 20 March, we hosted Taste of Harmony, where staff shared their favourite cultural dishes with colleagues. Alongside an array of delicious food, each dish came with a story—its cultural origins, family traditions, and the memories tied to it. The event was not just about food; it was an opportunity for staff to connect, learn, and appreciate the depth of cultural heritage. Adding vibrancy to the gathering, some staff members wore traditional attire, making the celebration even more special.
For many, the event sparked meaningful reflections on identity and heritage. One staff member later shared how the experience inspired them to reconnect with their cultural roots. They had always loved a particular sweet from their childhood but had never learned how to make it.
For Taste of Harmony, they asked their mother to teach them, and in the process, discovered the history behind the recipe—how their grandmother once made it by hand, long before modern kitchen appliances.
The act of cooking together became more than just a lesson; it was a moment of storytelling, connection, and rediscovery.
Food is more than just sustenance—it carries culture, history, and cherished memories. Events like Taste of Harmony remind us that every dish has a story, and through sharing food, we share a part of who we are.
