Away during the election

If you're going to be away from Victoria during the 2026 state election voting period, you can still vote.

Vote early

You can vote at any early voting centre between Wednesday 18 and Friday 27 November. You don't need a reason to vote early.

There will be early voting centres in every district in Victoria. We'll share these locations on Wednesday 4 November.

Vote by post

Anyone can apply to receive their ballot papers by post. Postal vote applications open at 9 am on Wednesday 4 November.

We'll share some more information about postal voting closer to the voting period.

Vote interstate

If you're interstate during the early voting period, you can apply for a postal vote. Postal vote applications open at 9 am on Wednesday 4 November.

You can also vote in person at any other Australian state or territory electoral commission head office.

They will be open between Wednesday 18 and Friday 27 November during local business hours (not including weekends). Interstate voting locations won't be open on election day (Saturday 28 November).

Vote from overseas

Vote in person or drop your postal vote at one of our international venues. We'll have venues in 30 cities in 21 countries. We'll publish the venue locations and opening hours on our website from 4 November.

If you're overseas, you can apply to have your ballot papers emailed to you. You can print them and return to us. Applications open at 9 am on Wednesday 4 November

Registered overseas voters

If you're living overseas and plan to return to Australia within 6 years of leaving, you can register as an overseas voter with the Australian Electoral Commission. Register at aec.gov.au/overseas

If you're already a registered overseas voter and have become a general postal voter, we'll post you a ballot pack after Tuesday 10 November.

Tell us you're away

If none of these options suit you, let us know you’ll be away by filling in an 'Away from Victoria' form.

This form is linked to your enrolment, so please check your enrolment first, and then click the 'Away from Victoria' button.

You can also download an overseas notification form if you’ve left Australia indefinitely.

Keep evidence of your travel in case we send you an 'Apparent failure to vote notice' in the months after the by-election. This letter is your chance to explain why it appears you didn't vote. This notice is not a fine.
