Born and raised in this great city, where the laneways and alleyways serve as galleries, Melbourne is my home. With a master’s in International Affairs and forthcoming doctorate in Media and Communications, I have dedicated my time to understanding the complex impacts that powerful institutions have on our everyday lives. My academic background, coupled with life experience, has shaped my vision for Melbourne, one that is both innovative and grounded in animal welfare and community values. Bruce and I prioritise promoting animal and petfriendly policies, fostering sustainable local businesses and ecotourism, and creating economic opportunities that involve young people in shaping our future. Team Statement Team Morgan – Residents United – Make Melbourne Safe. ‘Safety’ is needed to rebuild Melbourne businesses, retailers, education, health and tourism, covering all local communities. Gary Morgan (BCom) has been a resident of East Melbourne for more than 60 years, passionate about heritage and stopping council and governments demolishing historic buildings. Mr. Morgan owns and chairs Australia’s largest consumer research business – independent of government – employing hundreds of people in Melbourne and Australian-wide. Liz Ge (BCom) has been a long-standing Melbourne city resident and enjoys the diversity and vibrancy provided by the city. Liz Ge is passionate to make Melbourne safer and prosperous for a brighter future. Key Policy Areas 1. Safety: Melbourne’s major problem is ensuring community safety by collaborating with the State Government to ensure Police/Public Service Officers patrol streets, parks, public areas, etc. and all train stations in the City of Melbourne. Team Statement I, Anthony Koutoufides, born and raised in Melbourne, am proud to lead Team Kouta, committed to restoring our city as the world’s most liveable. Our team of progressive business and community leaders, with local government experience, has a clear plan to rejuvenate Melbourne. We will bring workers back to the CBD offering a range of incentives, we will look to extend the free tram zone, review some bike lanes, and introduce free parking after 6:30 pm. We will revitalise nightlife and improve safety with council-funded Protective Service Officers. To boost culture, we will introduce new “Major Events” featuring international and local artists. To address the cost-of-living crisis, we will provide $5,000 grants for up to 1,000 businesses that sign vacant CBD leases and we will freeze council rates for two years. We are committed to supporting the homeless with dignity and will partner with Governments to build affordable housing for essential workers. Sustainability is a priority. We will fast-track park maintenance, clean up streets and graffiti, and preserve Melbourne’s heritage buildings. Health and well-being will be enhanced with free council-run fitness classes and improved access to kindergartens. As an independent team, we will host regular Town Halls to ensure your voices are heard. Team Statement Our vision for Melbourne is for integrity in government and people-centred planning for a fairer, greener Melbourne. The population of the City of Melbourne is going to more than double by 2050. The Greens have a long-term plan that puts the communities and environment of Melbourne first. As local City of Melbourne residents and active community members, we want to represent you and lead this change at Town Hall. We are Roxane Ingleton, a midwife and unionist from North Melbourne, and Marley McRae McLeod, a mental health peer worker living in the CBD. Team Statement Labor for Melbourne is campaigning to “Keep Local Government Local.” The City of Melbourne is set to become one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia with 1 in 20 new Victorian homes being built in our city over the next 20 years. This growth requires a council focussed on building and maintaining community facilities and services like childcare, parks and playgrounds, maternal and child health, youth and seniors services; and making sure we deliver options that create affordable housing. Residents and businesses want our communities and neighbourhoods to thrive. We need targeted initiatives that deliver services that enhance the liveability and social cohesion of our city. Our team are locals. We are residents, parents, workers, business owners, and proud community advocates. Phil Reed is a former Executive with the TAC who now runs a local consultancy helping businesses and community organisations navigate public policy and legislative issues. 	Candidate Statement My name is Aishwarya Kansakar (29), a proud Australian of Nepali-Tibetan heritage. Having lived in four countries, I now call Melbourne home. I am an AI and automation engineer, technology entrepreneur and COO at Women4STEM. I speak 7 languages and I am a University of Melbourne Alumni who is now a STEM education innovator with Monash University. After nearly a decade in Melbourne, I have witnessed dire challenges: unaffordable rent, unsafe conditions for women and children, rising homelessness and costs for businesses, and growing social isolation among youth and the elderly. Growing up amid Nepal's civil war and later living in Japan with extremely organised communities, I understand the value of a safe, thriving environment and the consequences of not having one. As a problem solver and community builder, I aim to address these issues with my expertise to introduce community-driven digital platforms and smart city initiatives to help residents actively engage in improving our city. No photo submitted	Candidate Statement Residents are this municipality. Without them melbourne city would just be a large suburban shopping Center. Residents are what make this town. In all cities on our planet, residents, be they owners of title deeds or renters, such as myself, are the people who experience a city daily. A political and social philosophy that summarises this view is called communitarianism. This land had this before Fawkner and Batman arrived. I am of the view it still exists today, renewed and changed by the time, commercial, ethical and political choices that generations of residents are making and have made. My Mother was born in this city. Her mother was at the Olympic water polo match in 1956 where there was blood in the water. My grandmother is now in her 80th year. She drove her friends in her Bettle to this city to attend Melbourne Teachers Collage. The city today is different to the city my grandmother grew in. What should be the same is a dislike of violence and a fondness for window shopping. I want to see a city I would be proud and happy to bring my grandmother into. I hope you do too.
