Gender equality
In 2021 we audited our workplace to identify where we need to improve to achieve gender equality at the VEC. This data informed our first Gender equality action plan, which we submitted to the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector. This plan outlines the findings of our audit and lists the actions we will take to embed gender equality in everything we do.
When we developed our Gender equality action plan, we shared and collected data with various groups, including:
- the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU)
- our VEC CPSU delegates
- our staff, via the anonymous quarterly People and culture pulse survey and employee discussion groups.
We have incorporated views and opinions shared during our consultations into the plan and will continue consulting as we complete the actions in the plan.
The Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner accepted our plan as complying with the Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic) and published the results of our audit as part of the Baseline report – 2021 workplace gender audit data analysis. The report will be used to track progress towards gender equality targets across the Victorian public sector, including the VEC.
Gender equality action plan
We have a strong commitment to equal access for all Victorians. Our Gender equality action plan identifies key areas for improvement at the VEC:
- gender composition of all levels of the workforce
- pay equality
- sexual harassment
- recruitment and promotion practices
- leave and flexibility access
- gendered segregation.
The plan details a program of actions concluding in June 2025.
