Following the recent introduction of the Electoral Amendment Bill 2025, the Victorian Electoral Commission is undertaking a comprehensive review to consider the impact of the proposed legislation on the delivery of state elections.
The Bill includes reforms to election timelines and processes, nominated entities, party registration requirements, authorisation requirements and other areas.
Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said a careful review of the proposed legislation would be conducted to understand how it will affect the electoral system.
'It is critical that any legislative reforms do not undermine the trust and participation of all Victorians in their elections or the independence of the VEC,' he said.
With preparations already well underway for the next state election in less than 12 months' time, Mr Bluemmel said it may be challenging to implement some of the changes in 2026.
'We will analyse what this Bill means for the work we do,' he said.
'The VEC looks forward to working further with government and the Parliament on future reforms to modernise our elections and strengthen trust and participation for all Victorians.'
