Strategy 2027
In August 2023, we launched our strategic blueprint for the next 4 years. We developed Strategy 2027 through staff consultation and reviews of our internal and external operating environments. We aim to build trust in democracy and have the people and processes we need to navigate these complex environments.
Strategy 2027 measures our success in 4 thematic areas:
- trust – our electoral performance measures indicate we deliver high-quality services
- voters – we deliver a great voter experience
- processes and systems – we respond to a complex environment
- wellbeing – our people are capable, engaged, and satisfied.
In the first year of the strategy, we completed 5 of 19 enabling actions and made progress on 12 more. While 2 actions related to our processes and systems were delayed due to resource constraints, we expect them to be delivered in 2024–25.
Our performance improved overall across all 4 key areas – trust, voters, processes, and wellbeing. Staff satisfaction (our headline wellbeing metric) improved over the period, but challenges remain in areas like workload and progression opportunities. We are actively addressing these concerns with new initiatives, though we expect these improvements to take time.
To support Strategy 2027, we realigned our organisational structure in 2023–24, with new branches, roles, and reporting lines effective from February 2024. We continued work on the realignment throughout 2024, co-locating teams and improving systems to ensure we are well-equipped to deliver our strategic objectives.
