Nepean District by-election

We are holding a by-election to elect a new member of Parliament for Nepean District after Sam Groth resigned on Friday 13 February.

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly has announced that:

  • they will issue the writ for this by-election on Friday 13 March
  • the electoral roll will close at 8 pm on Friday 20 March
  • the final day for candidate nominations will be Friday 10 April
  • election day will be Saturday 2 May.

Based on this intended timeline, we can also advise that:

  • candidate nominations and postal vote applications will open at 9 am on Monday 16 March
  • early voting will begin on Wednesday 22 April.

If you live in Nepean District you should check your enrolment details are up to date. If they are incorrect make sure to update your enrolment before 8 pm on Friday 20 March.

If you've recently turned 18 or become an Australian citizen and have lived in Nepean District for longer than a month, make sure you enrol to vote. You must enrol to vote within 21 days of becoming eligible to vote in Victoria.

Candidate nominations for this by-election will:

  • open at 9 am on Monday 16 March
  • close at 12 noon on Thursday 9 April for registered political party candidates
  • close at 12 noon on Friday 10 April for independent candidates.
